18 September 2001 - The most successful season in the history of the club and STILL I don't find the time to update the site.....probably far too busy celebrating our 12th win of the season, I guess. For all of our overseas visitors (of which there must be...oh...1 or 2) our season to date stands like this :

P 17 --- W 12 --- D 2 --- L 3

Even taking into account tour matches, we've never won this many games in a season before and should we lose our last two fixtures of the season it would still represent the fewest defeats in the clubs history since records began. Without doubt the biggest plus point of the season has been our ability to successfully chase scores - the record breaking chase of 262 against our landlords, Farnham Royal, was followed up by Sunday's victory against Denham chasing 182. Name me another Iver Heath side that could have done that back-to-back. Proof, if any was needed, of the magical run chasing powers of the lucky marrow !

OK so here's a quick update on what's happened since the last update -

  • We raised £250 at the Race Night with St Johns Wood. As I sagely pointed out to the Northern Monkey later that week, it's the only ton the club would see out of me this year. Ho hum....a fool and his money and all that....

  • The predicta-score is looking like it's going all the way with Team D (Skippy, Frank Skinner and Paddy) narrowly leading the field by 5 points. Rumours are that the next couple of weeks could see a marked decrease in Fat Blokes bank balance....watch this space !

  • The date for the End of Season Meal still has to be decided and emails are flying round at the moment trying to tie down a date. I really need to know in the next week or it won't be happening (again !!). The venue this year is Quackers (or Porky's as it's better known !) and the evening will include all the usual awards along with a few alternative ones from me. Please let me know as soon as possible with your availability.

  • The Iver Heath Golf Day has now been set - Friday 19 October at Ruislip Golf Club. DHB is compiling the list of players and putting together the handicaps for what promises to be a fantastic day out as we all twat a golf ball round 18 holes, drink 18 pints and then go off in search of another 18 holes down at Regals ;o) Banging house for all, yea verily.....

  • The history of the club will probably be online early next year. I intend to spend some of the Winter break with Wally Rose and anyone else who can help putting together the last 54 years of the club. I'd love to hear from any ex-players who have stumbled across this website by accident as well as the recollections of the current squad of players. What are your first memories of playing for the club ? How did you find out about it ? What are the funniest moments in your time with Iver Heath ? Do you have any old photo's lying around that we could use ? Anything at all that would help build up a history of the club would be most appreciated. Send your ramblings to cricket@magicbus.dircon.co.uk

Right, that's your lot for another update. For those of you who I haven't got in contact with yet, I'm having a housewarming party October 13th - mail me for more details. Maybe when I'm in my new place I might even have the time to update the site - the amount I'm paying on rent I won't be going out much that's for sure !

So until the next time, keep the faith and May The Marrow Be With You.

Mike

23 July 2001 - Managed to find a spare few mins to add a coupla bits to the website....again, apologies for no update for a month but work has been crazy and I've not really felt overly inspired to add anything.
  • The season is going well - only lost 2 games so far this year and both of them we should really have won. We're playing some good, positive cricket and this Sunday's win over Chiltern Gypsies just goes to show what can happen if you go out and bat positively. The pitch was a throwback to the years at Iver Rec (no fault of Farnham Royal, though, as the main pitch had been waterlogged due to a broken main) and the only way to approach it was to attack which we did scoring the required 140 in 23.3 overs which is a run a ball.
  • Looking forward to this Sunday's match against St Johns Wood at Coney Green. This match is, of course, followed by a bar-b-q and then the Race Night. I urge anyone who isn't playing to come along and support this joint fund raising activity. As anyone who went to last years event will testify, they're a good laugh and a great way to spend an evening...and a fortune if you're as bad at betting as I am !! If anyone needs directions to the event then drop me a line at cricket@magicbus.dircon.co.uk
  • I've now collected some historical paperwork for the club going back to 1966 so will be starting to wade through it and putting together a sketchy history of the club. I also managed to get my hands on and early 70's team shot which you can find in the gallery - many thanks to the Williams family for this. I understand that DHB has been in contact with Wally Rose who has some old scorebooks and photo's from yesteryear so maybe the IHCC History book will finally get written......
  • Found an old picture of the skipper lying around, buried under a heap of paperwork, taken in the al fresco changing rooms at Headstone CC's old ground.....hope you like it, Mr V ! (just click back on your browser when you've had a good laugh at Doug's expense....)
  • Belated congratulations to Sicknote who recently got engaged to Sue. Well done, KC....guarantees to double the attendance at future games !!

Well that's about it as I write....I'll be having a quiet week this week getting myself psyched up for a huge weekend (Big Brother party round at the Ginger Minger's anyone ?) so might just put a few more bits online........but then again might not......Keep coming back and checking - I always make mention of updates in the News section :o)

15 June 2001 - Blimey...who would have thought it, eh ? Finally got round to updating the website after over 6 months ! Mind you I have had a lot on in that time and the last thing I want to do after spending 10 hours looking at a monitor at work is to come in and do it all again in the evening...especially when there's booze to be drunk ! Anyway, got round to starting some updates - with me having my place back to myself now it might just mean I'll be updating weekly again. Watch this space !

So for all of our millions of overseas fans (well Eddie anyway) what's been happening at Buckinghamshires favourite cricket team ?

  • Well we've got off to a flyer this season having won 5 of our 6 games and drawing the other one so it's looking good. Mind you we are facing the old enemy on Sunday - St Johns Wood. Need a big result against them this year having been whitewashed last season. I'll try to put together some retrospective match reports for this seasons games over the course of the week.

  • The great betting scandal of 2000 has been investigated by the ECB and they have cleared the club on the misconduct charges. They also asked to put a fiver on Group D to win this years little enterprise being run by Mr Big. Unfortunately I've not got the spreadsheet on this PC so will have to send it over during the week and add it to the site. For those who don't know, Mr Big has split the squad down into 4 teams of 3 and worked out a scoring mechanism based on estimated runs, wickets and catches for the season. Each event equals points and the idea is that you bet on which team you think will win the most points. Kinda doesn't make much sense without the spreadsheet so will post this week and explain the rules further then.....Needless to say my team is winning despite the outrageous umpiring decision on Sunday that gave me my first duck since West Drayton at home in July '99 !! (it was a first baller if anyone is interested....)

  • There are some more cartoons like the one above in the Gallery section of the website. I've added my own interpretation to them, of course.....I've also tidied up some of the gallery too. Now I've not got a digital camera this season (work finally realised what happened to the last one....oops !) so if the treasurer is reading this I'd like one with video capabilities, please....for some of my "special" home videos....hehehe

  • Statistics type stuff - got the figures from Coulhurst from last season so can finally finish off the stats for the 2000 season. I'll also finish off the history stats and publish them on the site. Might take me a bit of time but check the site regularly.

Other stuff planned for the site this season includes a Guestbook so our opposition teams can put in slanderous remarks after the game (or before the game if they're feeling brave !). I'm sure Chris and the boys at Headstone are aching to make mention of my demise in the beer match this season ! I'm also thinking about putting some more of the scoring charts online too. Basically thinking of rehashing the whole Goddam site so keep 'em peeled !
