Who is the quicker bowler ? Gavin Horton or Ian Mitchell ?

An interesting question posed by one of our readers. Taking into account age, size, wind speed and prevailing weather conditions, a young Ian Mitchell would just edge out a middle aged Gavin Horton. The proof, however, is the game at Iver Rec in the mid 90's against Hawridge and Cholesbury where Mr Mitchell managed to hit a plane on the Heathrow flight path with his second delivery of the day. The ball lodged itself into the fusilage of the New York bound flight and completed it's journey in 7 hours and 43 minutes at an average speed of 337 miles per hour making Ian Mitchell categorically the quickest bowler in Iver Heath history.

What is the lowest score ever recorded by the club in it's history ?

The lowest score by an Iver Heath club is 16 all out against North Hillingdon in 1991. The game was played at Taylors Meadow which is in Harefield. The Ordnance Survey grid reference for the ground is 505340,191170. The opening bowler was a chap by the name of John Brown. He had size 11 feet.

It was a scorcher last summer. What is the hottest game the club has ever played in ?

Club records only began in 1980 so we cannot include the great summer of 1976 in this particular equation which is a shame as this means my answer might not be 100% accurate but, on this occassion, I will answer. Uphill Castle on tour in 1991 is the hottest game on record with temperatures reaching 98.8 degrees in the outfield. Whilst it is true to say that the 2003 match against Flackwell Heath was played on historically the hottest day on record, there was a patch of shade underneath an oak tree which bought down the mean average by 1/2 a degree.

What is the highest score an opposition batsman has scored against Iver Heath ?

In 1994 the club took part in a tour to Somerset and played a match against Over Stowey where the opening batsman retired on 200 not out. He was wearing a pair of grey socks that his wife had given him for Christmas in 1993. However, the game was not an official club match as the touring side was known as the "Where Is Alexi Lalas XI". In 1987 a gentleman called Thompson scored 133 against the club in a match against Pinkneys Green. I was not present at this match but I have it on good authority that he had boiled eggs with toasted soldiers for breakfast that day.

What is the clubs longest spell without a win ?

The club went 23 matches without winning a game in the early 1980's. They lost the last 3 games in 1980, didn't manage to win a single game the following season and then had to wait until the third match of the 1982 season to chalk up their first victory. The square leg umpire at the end of that game had left his wife in the March of that year and was having a clandestine relationship with his baby sitter.

Who is the quickest bowler to have played for Iver Heath ?

Over the years the club has been blessed with a number of quicker bowlers. Most recently we have seen David Williams and Mike Cawdron, the latter now plays county cricket for Northants. However the fastest person to have played for Iver Heath was a gentleman by the name of Arthur Mogg who played for the club in the 1951 season. The third delivery of the second over against Old Twatsford was so fast that it created a rip in the time-space vortex and is currently orbiting the planet Aardon where it is worshipped by the planets inhabitants.
